One option that is up for discussion is to use some of this land for urban agriculture. 'AndyFest IV: Disco in Space' party set to rock the Savoy

Nashbash comes back for another year, strong in Kerrytown

 

annarbor.com August 19, 2010  Kerrytown in downtown Ann Arbor was the place to see Nashville-style country music this Thursday evening. The forth annual Nashbash featured musicians from around these parts and the festival exposed Ann Arbor to some up-and-coming acts who traveled here from Nashville, Tennessee. Aut Bar produced a billowing tower of smoke in the parking lot next to the Farmer's Market. They were cooking up barbecue and serving up beers for event attendees, while Sweetwaters lowered the temperature with cold drinks. READ MORE

Center for 21st Century Communities August 17, 2010 An interesting article that relates to some of the Center for 21st Century Communities' (21c3) "eight assets" was just posted to the Ann Arbor Observer / Community Observer's website, arborweb.com. You can now link to "Downtown Rebound: As economy quakes, towns hold firm," by Shelley Daily. The article takes a look at how officials, business owners, and community leaders in Saline, Chelsea, and Dexter, Michigan are trying to leverage and strengthen some of what 21c3 is championing, and it discusses some of the challenges facing downtowns. READ MORE

Center for 21st Century Communities (21c3) August 13, 2010   Michigan State University Museum is hosting the Great Lakes Folk Festival this weekend, August 13 - 15, in downtown East Lansing. Museum director Gary Morgan talked with News Talk 760 WJR’s Kirk Heinze about this year’s “Grassroots Green” theme, which seeks to encourage environmental consciousness and celebrate the long “heritage” of green practices.  READ MORE

21c3 Blog: College Prep course reaches out to immigrant and low-income students in Dearborn and Detroit

Center for 21st Century Communities (21c3) August 5, 2010   Preparing young students living in south Dearborn and southwest Detroit for college is the focus of a new collaborative pilot project. The Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services (ACCESS) and Henry Ford Community College will offer "a for-credit college preparation course," which "aims to help students successfully transition to and complete community college education," from September 21 - December 17, 2010, from 3 - 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, according to the class announcement. READ MORE
